 MATERIALS NEEDED

Red Heart or any Worsted Weight Yarn (Yarn Colors are given in Red Heart)

• 2 Skeins Cherry Red
• 3 Skeins Gold
• 2 Skeins Paddy Green
• 5 Skeins White

Tapestry Needle

 Hook Size: Size G (4.0mm) or your favorite size hook for your yarn.

 Gauge: 2 rounds = 2 ½“ (not important)

 NOTE: This afghan is made up of two different types of granny squares: a solid color granny and a bi-color granny.  General directions for each are as follows below.  Simply crochet the number of squares needed for each block in the color required, and then assemble as described in instructions.

 ABBREVIATIONS

beg – beginning
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sp – space
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
BLO – Back Loop Only  

 SOLID COLOR GRANNY

Finished square measures approximately 2 1/2”

 Make:

48 in Cherry Red

48 in Paddy Green

72 in Gold

216 in White

Ch 4, join with a sl st to first chain to form a ring

RND 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in ring, *ch 1, 3 dc in ring* repeat from * to * 2 times, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (12 dc, 4 ch 1 sps)

RND 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in the same ch 1 sp, *ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc* repeat from * to * 2 times, 3dc in beg ch 3, ch 1. Join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. Finish off; weave in loose ends (24 dc, 8 ch 1 sps)

 BI-COLOR GRANNY

Finished square measures approximately 2 1/2”

 Make:

48 in Cherry Red/White

48 in Paddy Green/White

48 Cherry Red/Paddy Green

72 in Gold/White

  Ch 4, with main color, join with a sl st to first chain to form a ring

RND 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, drop main color but DO NOT cut, pick up second color, YO draw through loop on hook, 3 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, ch 1 , join with sl st to top of beg ch 3 (12 dc, 4 ch 1 sps).

RND 2: Pick up main color, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in same ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, drop main color, pick up second color again, YO draw through loop on hook, 3 dc in same ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in last ch 1 sp, drop second color, pick up main color, YO draw through loop on hook, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. Finish off; weave in loose ends. (24 dc, 8 ch 1sps)

 AFGHAN ASSEMBLY

Using tapestry needle and appropriate color yarn and stitching through BLO or any joining method you prefer, assemble each individual block using the diagram below for placement. :

BORDER

RND 1: With Cherry Red yarn join with a sl st to any corner ch 1 sp, sc around, work 3 sc in each corner ch 1 sp, join with sl st to first sc to join

RND 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in each sc around, work 3 dc in each corner, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3 to join

RND 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each dc around, work 3 sc in each corner, join with sl st to first sc to join

RND 4: Repeat Rnd 2

Rnd 5: Repeat Rnd 3, finish off, weave in loose ends

 Optional: The border round can also be completed in Paddy Green.

Mystery Afghan – Clues #1 and #2

I was so excited to start this that I immediately started clues #1 and #2 when I got the email with the clues. I am making this with fall colors and I am hoping that these colors will be the perfect colors for a fall afghan. In these clues, the main color is used in the last round and then there are accent colors that are used for the inside.

Basically, there are 6 motifs and then also one extra filler motif. Each of the 6 motifs are made 8 times each for a total of 48 motifs. The extra filler motifs call for to make 12 so there will be 50 motifs total. I am not sure about how all of these will be joined as that is part of the mystery 🙂

Clue #1: Round Tuit

Clue #1 is made with mustard, beige, and honey has the main color. I have made two of these so far and I still need to make 6 more to have the 8 total.

Clue #2: Spiral Hexagon

Clue #2 is made with scarlet, olive, terracotta, and honey. My spiral hexagon does not look the way it should as I had joined the other two colors in the wrong place. I still have 6 more of these that I need to make so hopefully my next spirals will look better.

The actual colors are much darker than that of the photo. The photo of clue #1 shows the actual colors better.

Mystery Afghan

I have recently started a Mystery Afghan through the Vanna’s Choice Fan Club Group on Ravelry. This mystery afghan was created by JulieAnny on ravelry. There are 9 clues to this afghan and 1 or 2 clues are sent out via email every week.

My First Socks

Okay, on Tuesday, May 24th I started making my first pair of knitted socks. All was going well until my 2 year old daughter destroyed them. How did she destroy them? She took out not just 1 but all 3 of the needles! And then my sock just went all wrong as it started unraveling as I was trying to fix it. So needless to say, I had to rip the whole thing out and start over 😦 This is not the first time she took my knitting needles out of my sock. She also took them out yesterday but I was able to fix it.

Anyways, here is a picture of what my sock looked like before she destroyed it:

Now after ripping it out, I am off to completely restart my sock over. This time I will keep it put up on top of the couch to where she cannot reach it! I thought I had it out of her reach as I had it against the back of the couch cushion but apparently she can reach that far. So maybe the third time will be the charm!

Adding Images on Ravelry Posts

Images can be added to Ravelry posts from any website, but Vanna’s Choice Yarn is used for the purpose of this tutorial for my online friends in the Vanna’s Choice Fan Club Group on Ravelry.

1. Go to the Vanna’s Choice Yarn website: http://www.vannaschoiceyarn.com and click on the type of yarn: Vanna’s Choice, Vanna’s Choice Baby, or Vanna’s Choice Glamour

2. Right click on the color image and select Properties

3. When the Properties box appears, copy the Address URL link:

4. Go back to the Ravelry post that you want to add images to and click Edit. Once you are in the Edit screen, click on the Image Icon, which is the 6^th icon from the left.

5. A dialog box will appear, which is where you paste your copied URL Address link to. Make sure to highlight the “http://” in the box and then paste over it.

6. After you have pasted the link into the box, Click OK and then there should look something like this in your post:

7. You can also add the color name to the image by typing over the word Image Title

8. After you are done adding in the images, click Save Changes or Post Reply if you are not editing the post.

9. The color image should then appear in your post.
