Christmas Lemoyne Star Crochet Quilt

 MATERIALS NEEDED

Red Heart or any Worsted Weight Yarn (Yarn Colors are given in Red Heart)

  • 2 Skeins Cherry Red
  • 3 Skeins Gold
  • 2 Skeins Paddy Green
  • 5 Skeins White

Tapestry Needle

 Hook Size: Size G (4.0mm) or your favorite size hook for your yarn.

 Gauge: 2 rounds = 2 ½“ (not important)

 NOTE: This afghan is made up of two different types of granny squares: a solid color granny and a bi-color granny.  General directions for each are as follows below.  Simply crochet the number of squares needed for each block in the color required, and then assemble as described in instructions.

 ABBREVIATIONS

beg – beginning
ch – chain
sl st – slip stitch
sp – space
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
BLO – Back Loop Only  

 SOLID COLOR GRANNY

Finished square measures approximately 2 1/2”

 Make:

48 in Cherry Red

48 in Paddy Green

72 in Gold

216 in White

Ch 4, join with a sl st to first chain to form a ring

RND 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in ring, *ch 1, 3 dc in ring* repeat from * to * 2 times, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. (12 dc, 4 ch 1 sps)

RND 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in the same ch 1 sp, *ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc* repeat from * to * 2 times, 3dc in beg ch 3, ch 1. Join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. Finish off; weave in loose ends (24 dc, 8 ch 1 sps)

 BI-COLOR GRANNY

Finished square measures approximately 2 1/2”

 Make:

48 in Cherry Red/White

48 in Paddy Green/White

48 Cherry Red/Paddy Green

72 in Gold/White

  Ch 4, with main color, join with a sl st to first chain to form a ring

RND 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, drop main color but DO NOT cut, pick up second color, YO draw through loop on hook, 3 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, ch 1 , join with sl st to top of beg ch 3 (12 dc, 4 ch 1 sps).

RND 2: Pick up main color, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in same ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, drop main color, pick up second color again, YO draw through loop on hook, 3 dc in same ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in last ch 1 sp, drop second color, pick up main color, YO draw through loop on hook, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. Finish off; weave in loose ends. (24 dc, 8 ch 1sps)

 AFGHAN ASSEMBLY

Using tapestry needle and appropriate color yarn and stitching through BLO or any joining method you prefer, assemble each individual block using the diagram below for placement. :

BORDER

RND 1: With Cherry Red yarn join with a sl st to any corner ch 1 sp, sc around, work 3 sc in each corner ch 1 sp, join with sl st to first sc to join

RND 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in each sc around, work 3 dc in each corner, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3 to join

RND 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each dc around, work 3 sc in each corner, join with sl st to first sc to join

RND 4: Repeat Rnd 2

Rnd 5: Repeat Rnd 3, finish off, weave in loose ends

 Optional: The border round can also be completed in Paddy Green.
